Syracuse University’s all-time leading basketball scorer, Lawrence Moten, has passed away at the age of 53. His daughter, Lawrencia, confirmed his death on Tuesday after he was found at his home in Washington, D.C. Mike Walters of Syracuse.com broke the news of Moten’s unexpected passing.
Moten, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in program history, scored 2,334 career points during his four years with the Orange from 1991 to 1995—a record that still stands.
After a brief NBA career with the Vancouver Grizzlies, Moten returned to Syracuse, where he dedicated himself to mentoring young people, working with youth programs in the Syracuse City School District.
