President Biden’s Brother-In-Law Dies, Auburn Calling Hours Friday

The Auburn and Skaneateles connection to the White House is back in the news today.

President Joe Biden’s brother-in-law 72-year old Michael Edward Hunter died last week. Michael was the bother of Neilia Hunter-Biden, the President’s first wife.

Neilia Hunter was born in Auburn and lived in Skaneateles.  She was the Syracuse University homecoming queen and married Biden in 1966.

Neilia was driving in Delaware in December 1972 when she pulled in front of a tractor-trailer.  Neilia and the couple’s daughter were killed in the crash, and sons Beau and Hunter were both injured in the crash.

The recently closed Hunter Dinerant was once owned by Neilia Hunter’s family.

Michael Edward Hunter passed peacefully at home surrounded by family, January 26, 2023, at the age of 72. Michael was born November 24, 1950 and was raised in Skaneateles, NY.

Beloved father, grandfather and brother, Mike was an avid water skier and downhill skier. In his later years Mike most enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Michael earned a degree in Philosophy from Potsdam.

Michael is predeceased by his parents, Robert Neil Hunter and Louise (Basel) Hunter, sister, Neilia Hunter Biden, niece, Naomi Biden and nephew, Beau Biden.

Surviving are his daughter, Marren Felter (Gregory); two grandchildren: Gillian Grace and Gregory Robert; brother, John (Nancy) Hunter; brother-in-law, President Joseph R. Biden; nephews: Hunter Biden (Melissa) and Jason Hunter (Samantha); niece, Jessica Hunter (Anthony); as well as great-nephews and great-nieces.

Calling hours will be held at Langham Funeral Home, LLC, 75 East Genesee St., Auburn, NY 13021 on Friday February 3, 2023 from 1:00-3:00 PM.
