A Cayuga County Corrections Officer was hospitalized Tuesday after possible exposure to suspected drugs seized from an inmate at the correctional facility in Moravia.
According to the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association, the officer was searching an inmate when a ceramic razor blade was discovered in his pocket. While transporting the inmate to a special housing unit, the officer also found a green leafy substance and a folded piece of paper that contained five pills.
Shortly after seizing the objects, the officer reported feeling dizzy and was checked over by medical staff and was given Narcan before being taken to Auburn Community Hospital for evaluation. He was later released from the hospital.
The exact type of drug the officer was exposed to has not yet been determined.
