A resolution that would have started the process of Yates County becoming a member of the Rochester-Genesee Regional Transportation District for public transportation was tabled Monday by the County Legislature. A request was made to do so by Yates Transit Service, the county’s current public transportation provider.
Last month, the Legislature viewed a presentation from Regional Transit Service and how it would provide public transportation to the county if chosen to do so.
Currently, Moziac, the parent company of Yates Transit, owns 7 of the 8 buses currently used. Moziac’s Tammy Slayton told the Legislature during its presentation on Monday that a recent request for the county to purchase additional buses for Yates Transit no longer stands.
Lisa Minns is the Director of Yates Transit. She said there is a way that the county would still own the buses.
Prior to the Legislature’s action, Slayton explained why she thought it would be a good idea to table the resolution.
Slayton added that if the county ultimately decided to go with a new transportation vendor, Yates Transit would continue to serve the county until the new vendor was able to take over.
