Watkins Glen Passes Resolution Opposing Padua Expansion

SHARE NOW

As it awaits an answer from the state DEC on its request for an extension of the public comment period on the proposed expansion of the Padua Ridge gravel pit, the village of Watkins Glen has passed a unanimous resolution opposing the plan. Mayor Lori DeNardo provided an update on where things currently stand with the DEC.

Last month, the DEC set the cut-off for comments to be February 24th. State Senator Tom O’Mara and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano have sent a letter to DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos seeking an extension of at least 90 days for public comment.

Padua’s proposed expansion of its State Route 409 location by more than 60 acres would result in the extraction of approximately 3.5 million cubic yards of material for approximately 20 years.
