April 18th, 10 a.m. UPDATE:
A few new details have been released regarding the two-car head-on crash on Route 14 in the town of Starkey on Wednesday afternoon.
A preliminary investigation by State Police showed a 2017 Chevy Equinox was traveling south when it struck head-on a 2010 GMC Sierra that was headed north. The driver of the Equinox, a 34-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, a 22-year-old woman, was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital for her injuries.
Troopers have not released the names of the two people involved in the accident as their investigation continues.
Route 14 was shut down at Rock Stream and South Glenora roads for more than three hours because of the accident.
The New York State Police were assisted by the Collison Reconstruction Unit (CRU), the Forensic Identification Unit (FIU), the Yates County Sheriff’s Office, the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office, the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Department of Transportation, the Dundee Fire Department, and Mercy Flight.
8 P.M. UPDATE:
The Yates County Sheriff’s Office reports the portion of Route 14 that was shut down in Rock Stream has reopened.
A portion of Route 14 is shut down at Rock Stream and South Glenora roads in Yates County as emergency crews are on the scene of a two-car, head-on accident.
Mercy Flight was summoned to the scene in Rock Stream to transport one of the victims and the county coroner was also called. The accident happened at around 4 on Wednesday afternoon.
