Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck has issued a travel advisory until 3 Tuesday morning. Motorists are encouraged to use caution due to the weather.
“Lake effect snow and wind are making for challenging road conditions in areas throughout the county, in some cases whiteout conditions exist. Forecasts call for additional snow and wind through tonight, especially in northern Cayuga County. Allow for extra time if you must travel and consider delaying travel if you can.”
Yates County Sheriff Francis Ryan has also issued a travel advisory:
“The Yates County Sheriff’s Office is issuing a travel advisory urging area residents to “avoid unnecessary travel throughout the county” due to “very slippery” road conditions today. The combination of high winds, drifting snow, and plummeting temperatures has also created very low visibility. The Sheriff’s Office has already taken numerous calls of vehicles off the roadway. Please travel with extreme caution if travel is unavoidable.”
