Steuben County is making its jail safer for the people who are housed or work inside of the Bath correctional facility.

A new body scanner was installed at the jail this week. According to the sheriff’s department, the AllTek 84 Intercept is the most advanced x-ray body scanning system for the detection of weapons, drugs, cell phones, and other contraband in seconds.

Patented technology allows the scanner to detect metallic and nonmetallic threats concealed under clothing and within body cavities within 3.8 seconds. The ultra-low-dose x-ray scanning safely creates sharp, clear images.
