Saying he was “humbled, honored, and surprised by it,” Sheriff Ron Spike received the National Sheriff’s Association’s President’s Outstanding Service Award for 2023.
Yates County’s long-time top lawman was presented with the award at the Association’s annual conference being held this week in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Sheriff Spike announced earlier this year he would not seek re-election in the fall and would retire after 52 years in law enforcement. He was first elected Yates County Sheriff in 1992. Earlier this year, Sheriff Spike was the honored guest of Congresswoman Claudia Tenney at the State of the Union speech in Washington.
