The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that a portion of State Route 54 in the Town of Barrington, Yates County, will be closed to traffic beginning at 6 a.m. Monday, June 16, to accommodate an emergency culvert replacement project. The road will be closed at the culvert one mile north of the Steuben County line and is anticipated to reopen on Friday, June 20.
Motorists are advised to follow the signed detour utilizing State Routes 230 and 14A. Variable message signboards have been positioned to alert motorists ahead of the closure.
Motorists should anticipate travel delays during this time and are advised to seek alternate routes if necessary. Construction activities are weather-dependent and subject to change based on conditions.
Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.
