As police continue to investigate this week’s homicide in the village of Penn Yan, they have released the names of the people involved on Thursday.
89-year-old Ronald Salyer is accused of strangling his 89-year-old wife Jane with a towel at their Franklin Street home. Police say Ronald Salyer suffers from dementia and they believe that played a role in the homicide. Jane Salyer’s body was found on the floor of a bathroom inside the residence by a home health aide Tuesday afternoon. Ronald Salyer was located on the same floor but in very poor health. He is currently hospitalized and unable to communicate with authorities due to his condition.
Penn Yan Police Chief Thomas Dunham says his department is working with the Yates County District Attorney’s Office to review the matter. Dunham says the Salyer family has been fully cooperative during the investigation and his department understands this is a trying time for the family as they are not only grieving the loss of a mother, but also the hospitalization of their father.
Ronald Salyer remains the only person of interest at this time.
