SHARE NOW

Police are investigating a murder that occurred at a home in the village of Penn Yan.

Officers were called to the home Tuesday afternoon after a home health aide arrived and found an 89-year-old woman dead on a bathroom floor. Police say the woman’s husband was found alive on the bathroom floor but in poor health.  It is believed at this time, the husband, who is also 89 years old and suffers from dementia, killed his wife by using a bath towel to strangle her.

The victim was taken to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. Her husband was taken to a local hospital where he is medically incapacitated and unable to communicate at this time.

Chief Thomas Dunham says there is no indication anyone else was in the home and no valuables are missing.  The names of the suspect and victim have not been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
