A highly respected educator with the Watkins Glen School District will be its next High School Principal.
Last month, Jamie Harter was appointed Interim High School Principal for the remainder of the school year. Harter took over from Kyle Colunio, who started Monday as Superintendent of the South Seneca school district. With the help of a designed leadership succession plan, Marcy Brubaker will gradually transition into her new role. According to the school district, this structured leadership handoff will ensure a “seamless transition and continued success for our students, staff, and community.”
Beginning in July, Marcy will serve as an administrative intern, working closely with Mr. Harter and the leadership team to gain hands-on experience in school administration. She will officially assume full principal responsibilities on February 2, 2026.
A graduate of Arkport High School, a GST BOCES component school, Marcy earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Delaware Valley University and her Master of Science in Secondary Education from Alfred University. She further expanded her expertise with an Advanced Certification in School Climate and Social-Emotional Learning from Quinnipiac University and is in the final stages of completing her Educational Leadership degree at SUNY Oswego.
A news release from the district heaped praise on Brubaker “Since joining the Watkins Glen Central School District in the early 2000s, Marcy has deeply embedded herself in the school community, which she now proudly calls home with her family. She has built an exceptional career at WGHS, serving as a dedicated science teacher, department and committee leader, championship-winning cheerleading coach, and a steadfast advocate for students. Her passion, leadership, and dedication have played a pivotal role in shaping school culture and student success.”
