At a special meeting, the Legislature gave the okay to spend up to $165,000 to hire a qualified and permitted trucking contractor to haul away contaminated soil at the current Yates County Highway Department site. The project has a contingency fund of more than $960,000 to cover unforeseen expenses. Highway Superintendent Douglas Raplee told the legislature he still anticipates the project to be completed next month.
