Just three months after it approved using $300,000 to pay for unsuitable soil to be removed from the site of the new Yates County Highway, Office of Emergency Services and Public Health facility in Benton, the County Legislature again this week approved more money to be spent to do the same.
At a special meeting, the Legislature gave the okay to spend up to $165,000 to hire a qualified and permitted trucking contractor to haul away contaminated soil at the current Yates County Highway Department site. The project has a contingency fund of more than $960,000 to cover unforeseen expenses.
Highway Superintendent Douglas Raplee told the legislature he still anticipates the project to be completed next month.
