The man who murdered a 26-year-old Corning woman in August of last year received his punishment Tuesday.
Brett Heffner was sentenced to 25 years to life for the murder of Keli Collins last August 5th. The 29-year-old Heffner admitted in March to attacking Collins, who was found unresponsive in her apartment. She and Heffner lived in the same apartment complex and knew each other.
An autopsy determined she was strangled to death and was sexually assaulted prior to her passing away.
After committing the crime, Heffner stole Collins’ car and was arrested later that same night after the vehicle was stopped in Hornell.
