An Ithaca man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the killing of his wife, admitting to the crime in Tompkins County Court on Tuesday.
44-year-old Ahmed Abed intentionally caused the death of his wife, Alaa Hussein Jeena Abed, during a fatal domestic incident on the morning of November 11, 2024. His plea to Murder in the Second Degree carries a potential sentence of 15 to 25 years to life in prison.
“I will be asking the Court to impose the maximum sentence for this brutal and heinous act of violence,” Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten said. “If I could ask for a greater sentence, I would. There is nothing that will truly amount to justice in this tragic case. The fact that the defendant accepted responsibility, pleading guilty to the indictment and saving his children and the community the trauma of enduring a lengthy trial, is the right outcome under the law, and one that certainly advances public safety.”
Abed is scheduled to be sentenced on August 19
