Here’s some good news in a story update from Schuyler County: Diesel, a 2-year-old mix of Labrador and Mastiff rescued from a house fire in Watkins Glen on August 11th is back home with his owner.
The Odessa File reports Diesel spent five days recovering at Cornell University’s animal hospital after being overcome by smoke at the scene. Despite the lung damage caused by the smoke, he was revived by firefighters and is now home, though he needs to “take it easy” due to his increased susceptibility to illness, according to Wendy Criss, Diesel’s owner. Diesel had been with Criss for just four days, having been adopted from the Ithaca SPCA shortly before the fire.
The blaze, which originated in Criss’s kitchen while she was working at a Lodi State Park campground, left her without a home. A friend is allowing Criss and Diesel to stay at an apartment on 11th Street.
