A contractor from Wolcott has been arrested for allegedly scamming a Oneida County couple.
In the fall of 2022, a couple from The Town of New Hartford hired William Friello, of Wolcott to complete renovations on their home. After the victims and the contractor agreed upon the renovations and time frame for the work to be completed, the victims provided Friello with a $38,000 deposit.
After several months had passed, Friello was accused of never starting the renovations. Over the years, the victims attempted to get their money refunded however, Friello allegedly never made any attempt to return the money or complete any renovations on the house.
Those victims then came to the New Hartford Police to file a complaint and an investigation was initiated by Officer Mark Moskal. At the completion of the investigation, an Arrest Warrant was issued for Friello, and last Thursday, he surrendered himself to Investigators at the New Hartford Police Department.
Friello was arrested for one count of Grand Larceny in the 3rd degree, a D Felony, then arraigned in the Town of New Hartford Court where he was released on his own recognizance.
