A Webster man was rescued after falling through the ice while fishing on Sodus Bay on Tuesday.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the area about 100 yards west of Owens Shore in the Town of Huron, where they found 57-year-old Imre Ulci partially submerged in the water.
First responders were able to make verbal contact with Ulci while rescue teams prepared to reach him. Members of the Wolcott Fire Department entered the bay as the Alton Fire Department launched an airboat for the rescue.
Five Alton firefighters aboard the airboat were able to successfully reach Ulci, pull him from the icy water, and bring him back to shore. He was then turned over to Wayne County EMS and transported to Newark-Wayne Community Hospital for treatment.
Multiple agencies assisted in the response, including the New York State Police, North Rose Fire Department, Sodus Point Fire Department, Wayne County EMS, Silver Waters EMS, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
