Earlier this month, Abram Boerman, Superintendent of Highways for the Town of Ontario Highway Department, visited the Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES Technical and Career Center in Williamson to present a $500 check on behalf of the Wayne County Highway Superintendent Association. This contribution was directed to the WTCC Heavy Equipment Repair and Operations program, aiming to support students as they develop essential skills for their future careers.
Heavy Equipment instructors John Erwin, Todd Buehler, and Michael Tantalo were joined by members of the Wayne County Highway Superintendent Association, including Kurt Allman (Williamson), Abram Boerman (Ontario), Tim Boerman (Marion), Michael Boesel (Palmyra), Chris Countryman (Macedon), Zachary Decker (Wolcott), Jeff Jay (Rose), Jared Laird (Sodus), Andy Porter (Galen), and Kevin Switzer (Walworth). The representatives emphasized the importance of obtaining a CDL and encouraged students to consider careers with the department, highlighting the competitive salaries and excellent benefits available in the field.
During the visit, students showcased their simulation room, a cutting-edge space designed to help them practice and refine their technical skills. The event highlighted the valuable connection between the program and local industry leaders, demonstrating their mutual commitment to fostering student success.
“This donation will directly benefit the Heavy Equipment Repair and Operations Club, ensuring students have direct access to the funds they need to achieve their educational goals,” said Principal Andy McVey. The check was formally presented to Class President Bryce Redmond, a senior at Palmyra-Macedon High School.
