The 22 students and three adults on board a Wayne school bus that became engulfed in flames after being involved in an accident last month received special recognition from the district at its Thursday night Board of Education meeting.

Driver Deb Hibbard, the two adult chaperones, and the group of children were en route back to school on September 27th when the bus they were on struck a car that pulled out in front of them at an intersection in Webster. The impact of the crash sparked a huge fire.

All 25 people on the bus espaced safely with Hibbard and one student suffering minor injuries.

The driver of the car, 73-year-old William Fierstein, of Webster,  was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators have not said what led Fierstein to pull out in front of the bus.
