SHARE NOW

A Waterloo woman was killed in a two-car accident in the town of Fayette.

It happened Monday morning just after 10 at the intersection of State Route 414 and Yellow Tavern Road. An investigation determined that 75-year-old Kathleen Irland failed to stop at the stop sign on Yellow Tavern and was struck by a northbound Ford Expedition driven by 38-year-old Lindsay Shirk, of Ovid.

Shirk had to be cut out of her car through the windshield and was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Despite efforts to save her, Irland passed away from her injuries.

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by North and South Seneca Ambulance, NYSP and NYS DEC, and the Seneca County Sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction Team.
