Waterloo Man Pleads Not Guilty to Attempted Murder Charges

SHARE NOW

A Waterloo man accused of firing at officers during a violent standoff in April has pleaded not guilty to multiple felony charges, including three counts of attempted murder of a police officer.  Randy Davis entered the plea on June 11 in Seneca County Court.

A grand jury indicted Davis on a total of 13 charges. The charges stem from an April 1 incident at the Mallard Crossing mobile home park on Routes 5 & 20. According to State Police, Davis broke into his uncle’s home next door around 2:30 a.m., assaulted 69-year-old Steven Linden, and stole several weapons.

After the break-in, police say Davis fired weapons from three different homes in the park, including his own. As troopers and other law enforcement units responded, Davis allegedly continued firing and refused to surrender. Officers attempted negotiations throughout the early morning, but Davis escalated the situation by firing at propane tanks in the park. Law enforcement ultimately deployed tear gas to force his surrender.

The Finger Lakes Times reports Davis is scheduled to return to court on August 20 for pretrial motions.

Linden was treated for his injuries at Geneva General Hospital and was released a short time later.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
