UPDATE: State Police issued the following update regarding Saturday’s fatal accident on the Thruway:

Olivia Moore, 21, of the United Kingdom, was operating a 2022 Kia Soul westbound on I-90 when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle veered onto the north shoulder, striking a guiderail end. Both Moore and the rear driver’s side passenger, Francesca Ward, 21, also of the United Kingdom, were pronounced deceased at the scene. They were transported to Geneva General Hospital pending an autopsy.

Passengers, Inesa Meshko Kosei, 21, of Spain, and Reina Haga, 22, of Japan, were both transported to Clifton Springs Hospital for an evaluation only.

All four occupants of the vehicle are international students from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. It was reported the students were traveling to Toronto, Canada to sightsee at the time of the crash. There was no indication of drug or alcohol involvement at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.

Two people were killed in a weekend accident on the New York State Thruway in Ontario County.

State Police responded to the one-car crash at around 1:50 Saturday morning in the area of mile marker 335 westbound, between exit 42 (Geneva) and exit 43 (Manchester).

A preliminary investigation determined that a passenger vehicle traveling westbound, exited the roadway and struck a guiderail. Two occupants of the vehicle were pronounced deceased at the scene. The remaining two occupants were transported to an area hospital for evaluation, but were not reported to be injured.

The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released at a later time.
