Two people were injured in a head-on crash Saturday evening on State Route 96 in the Town of Manchester, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the intersection of Route 96 and Kyte Road at about 6:49 p.m. for a reported personal injury accident.

85-year-old Viola Yonovich of Shortsville was traveling eastbound in a 2020 Subaru when she allegedly failed to keep right and crossed into the westbound lane. Investigators said her vehicle struck a 2025 Honda SUV driven by 35-year-old Meredith Calabretta of Farmington.

The crash caused a head-on collision, trapping Yonovich inside her vehicle. She was removed by Manchester-Shortsville firefighters and Finger Lakes EMS before being transported to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Officials said Yonovich suffered a fractured leg, fractured ribs, and a punctured lung.

Calabretta was taken to Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, New York for treatment of reported neck and wrist pain.

Deputies issued Yonovich citations for failure to keep right and moving from a lane unsafely. She is scheduled to appear in Manchester Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.

The crash remains under investigation.
