A high-speed chase that reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour ended Wednesday afternoon with the arrest of two Florida residents after a pursuit from Yates County to the City of Geneva.
At around 3:42 p.m., Yates County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to stop a dark green Mercedes-Benz traveling on State Route 14 in the Town of Torrey. The driver failed to stop and fled northbound, leading deputies on a pursuit with assistance from a New York State Trooper who was in the area. At one point, the driver was clocked going 112 miles per hour before leaving 14 and turning onto Snell Road.
The pursuit continued onto White Springs Road and was later terminated in the city of Geneva due to high speeds and safety concerns. Shortly after, the occupants were seen running from the vehicle in the area of Grove Street. With help from the Geneva City Police Department, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, and the New York State Police, a perimeter was set up and both suspects were quickly located and taken into custody.
A stolen handgun was recovered at the scene.
The suspects were identified as 22-year-old Alex Valcin, 21-year-old and Briana Rejouis, both of Delray Beach, Florida. Both were charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree.
Valcin was also charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and multiple vehicle and traffic violations.
Both individuals were taken to the Yates County Jail for arraignment.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
