Storms Cause Damage and Power Outages in Cayuga, Seneca, and Ontario Counties

Several strong thunderstorms moved through the Finger Lakes yesterday afternoon and evening bringing with it some heavy downpours while gusty winds which brought down tree limbs and power lines.

Portions of Route 14 south of Geneva was shut down due to downed limbs and power lines.

The Geneva Country Club also reported damage after a limb crashed through its roof causing a hole in the ceiling of the clubhouse.

A home on Route 89 in Seneca Falls caught fire after it was hit by lightning. No injuries were reported.

Some homes and businesses in the Finger Lakes remain in the dark this morning as New York State Electric and Gas continues to work to restore power in Cayuga, Seneca, and Ontario counties. At one time last night over 3500 NYSEG customers were without power most of those were in the Seneca County towns of Seneca Falls, Romulus, Tyre, Varick, and Waterloo.
