Seneca Falls Police have arrested two juveniles for allegedly posting a threatening message to Snapchat.
The threat was brought to the attention of the Seneca Falls Police Department by the FBI and the New York State Intelligence Center (NYSIC) on Monday night. Upon notification, School Resource Officer Sgt. Michael Poole responded to the incident and through his investigation, the situation was resolved within one hour of being notified and the juveniles were taken into custody without incident.
“We want to reassure our community that this matter has been handled effectively, no specific school was mentioned in the post, and that there is no ongoing threat to our schools or the community,” stated Police Chief Timothy A. Snyder. “We appreciate the collaboration between local, state, and federal agencies that allowed us to act quickly in ensuring the safety of our students and residents.”
The juveniles, whose identities are protected due to their age, are facing felony charges of making a terroristic threat. They were released to the custody of their parents and will appear at Seneca County Probation at a later date.
Authorities continue to emphasize the seriousness of such actions and the potential consequences that can arise from irresponsible behavior online.
“This kind of behavior will not be tolerated in our community,” said Police Chief Timothy A. Snyder. “We take all threats seriously, and our swift response demonstrates our commitment to ensuring the safety of our residents, especially our youth.”
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
