A Seneca Falls man has been indicted for allegedly killing a woman’s companion animal in Cayuga County.
According to Cayuga County District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci, Brandon Carlson was indicted Tuesday by a Cayuga County Grand Jury on the charges of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals and Tampering with Physical Evidence, both felonies.
The indictment alleges that on November 28, 2023, the 39-year-old physically beat a dog in the Town of Springport, causing it head trauma which resulted in death. After killing the dog, Carlson is then accused of moving the body to a roadway to conceal the cause of death, making it appear as if the animal had been struck and killed by a vehicle.
If convicted, Carlson faces a maximum of 16 months to four years in prison. He will appear in court before the Honorable Jon Budelmann on November 6.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
