Seneca Falls Man Arrested on Animal Cruelty Charge

SHARE NOW

A Seneca Falls man has been arrested following a complaint of animal cruelty involving a dog left in his care.

The Town of Seneca Falls Police Department reports that officers arrested 55-year-old William McDermott on Wednesday after an investigation into the condition of a dog under his supervision. Police allege the animal was allowed to become extremely emaciated and was found in very poor health.

McDermott was charged with one count of Overdriving, Torturing, and Injuring Animals – Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance, a violation of New York State Agriculture and Markets Law.

Authorities say the dog has been removed from the situation and is now safe while receiving veterinary care.

The case remains under investigation, and McDermott is expected to appear in court at a later date.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
