A new disaster relief fund has been set up in response to the Main Street fire in Ovid last month that destroyed several businesses and apartments. One of the businesses was Big M, the only grocery store within a 16-mile radius, which has created a food crisis in southern Seneca County.
Knowing that Big M’s loss has been felt by many, the Seneca County Farm Bureau established a relief fund where donations can be made by check, PayPal, Venmo, credit or debit cards, or by purchasing gift certificates from Schrader Farms in Romulus. Schrader Farms, which sells locally produced meats and other goods, has pledged to donate all proceeds from the gift certificates to the Ovid Food Pantry at the Ovid Federated Church.
“We need to come together to support our communities,” said Kaylee Borden, Seneca County Farm Bureau President. “In rural areas like Seneca County, access to food can be challenging, but the situation has worsened dramatically by this devastating fire. Please consider donating any amount you can to our relief fund. No donation is too small.”
Checks can be mailed to Tim Freier, Treasurer, Seneca County Farm Bureau, 3792 Post Road, Geneva, NY 14456.
