Overnight stays in Seneca County may soon become more expensive.
Last week, the Seneca County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution to increase the hotel-motel occupancy tax from 3% to 6%. The current 3% tax has been in place for over 20 years. Officials note that Geneva’s occupancy tax is already at 6%, with the city and county each receiving 3%.
Supervisors hope to meet soon with Assemblymen Phil Palmesano and Jeff Gallahan and State Senator Tom O’Mara-all of whom represent Seneca County in Albany in order to move the state legislation forward.
