Nearly a month after a 9-1-1 call reported a poisoned puppy, a Farmington man has been arrested on aggravated animal cruelty charges.
On April 17th, 66-year-old James Kinney claimed his 2½-month-old Collie mix, Goose, had been poisoned by a neighbor. However, a necropsy conducted at Cornell University’s Animal Health Diagnostic Lab revealed the puppy died from blunt force trauma to the rib cage, which caused a fatal liver laceration. No evidence of poisoning was found.
Further investigation revealed witness accounts of Kinney dragging Goose by her leash, causing her to scream.
Based on those reports and the necropsy results, Kinney was arrested and is scheduled to appear in Farmington Town Court.
Two domestic shorthair cats were also removed from Kinney’s Coach Light Circle residence and are currently being evaluated by the Humane Society.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
