Police: Auburn Man Fled Elbridge Accident Involving Wolcott Teen

An Auburn man is accused of fleeing the scene of an accident in Elbridge that sent three people to the hospital.

According to state police, the incident happened just after 11:00p Monday at the intersection of State Route 5 and Hamilton Rd.

Mitchell Podolak is accused of failing to stop at a red light at the intersection and striking a Honda Civic being operated by 17-year-old Tanner Miller from Wolcott who was traveling West on Route 5.

Witnesses at the scene observed Podolak flee on Hamilton Rd. He was later spotted hiding in a wood line near Tessy Plastic by Onondaga County Sheriff’s deputies utilizing a helicopter. The helicopter was able to direct deputies on the ground to his location.

After refusing to comply, Podolak was tased. He then became compliant.

Podolak was taken to SP Elbridge and arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, Resisting Arrest, Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident, Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident, and several traffic law violations. He was then taken to the Onondaga County Justice Center for arraignment.

Three passengers of the Honda were taken to Upstate with non-life-threatening injuries.
