A high school teacher in Ontario County has been arrested for allegedly having sex with a student.
David Porter, of Victor, was arrested Saturday and charged with felony rape. It is alleged the 66-year-old Victor High School teacher had sex with a with a person under the age of 17 in December. Police say that while the victim is a student, they are not a current student of Porter. There is also no evidence that the act in question took place on school grounds.
The school has placed Porter on leave and is having legal counsel seek interim and immediate suspension of his teaching certification. Following his arraignment, Porter was released to appear in Victor Town Court on Tuesday.
“These circumstances are distressing. The safety and well-being of our school community is of the highest importance. Additional support and resources will be available on Monday for students and staff. If you or your child are in need of immediate support, please contact your child’s principal. The school will send out information as law enforcement allows,” said Dr. Timothy Terranova, Superintendent of Victor Central Schools.
Anyone with information about this case or who knows of any similar incidents involving David Porter is urged to contact Inv. Dylan LaBrake at (585) 394-4560. The matter is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kristin Sippel.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
