A sheriff’s deputy is in the hospital following a serious crash in Ontario County on Routes 5 and 20. The crash happened in the Town of Hopewell, between Freshour Road and Mumby Road, at around 8 Monday night.

Ontario County Sheriff’s Deputies say Deputy Molly Turnbull was responding in emergency mode to assist a State Trooper with a resisting arrest call when her patrol collided with an SUV. The 30-year-old deputy suffered serious injuries and was freed from the vehicle by a Sheriff’s Sergeant and firefighter.  She was taken by Canandaigua Ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital and underwent surgery for internal injuries.  As of Tuesday afternoon, Sheriff David Cirencione said Deputy Turnbull remains in the Hospital’s ICU in stable condition.

The driver of the SUV, 35-year-old Ponell Kittles, of Canandaigua, suffered a leg injury and is also listed in stable condition at Strong.
