No action was taken this week by an Ontario County committee on a resolution opposing the proposed expansion of the Seneca Meadows landfill.
Geneva Town Supervisor Mark Venuti introduced the measure, citing concerns about odor, heavy truck traffic, and the landfill’s visual impact. The landfill is expected to reach capacity by the end of the year, but operators want to expand, adding 47 million cubic yards and increasing its height to 350 feet-extending operations through 2040.
The Finger Lakes Times reports some committee members questioned whether Ontario County should weigh in. Venuti noted it’s the only neighboring county that hasn’t taken a position.
