A mother and daughter are facing charges after turning a dog over to the Ontario County Humane Society.
On January 16th, the Humane Society reported it received a phone call from Kate Ogdenski reporting that her mother, Charlene Ogdenski, had found a stray dog running around the Canandaigua area several days earlier and was no longer able to hold on to her and wanted to surrender her to the agency. Arrangements were made for the staff of the Humane Society to stay late and Charlene Ogdenski arrived shortly after 5 that afternoon with a black and white female American Bulldog. Charlene Ogdenski again claimed she had found the fog on an unknown road around the Canandaigua area and couldn’t find its owner. Charlene Ogdenski then signed the necessary paperwork as per protocol at the shelter to turn the dog over as a stray.
The dog was soon scanned for a microchip and one was found. Upon contacting the microchip provider, the chip was found to have returned to Kate Ogdenski. A further investigation showed that the dog had been involved in a bite incident on January 6th at Kate Ogdenski’s home in Newark. At the end of the ten-day confinement, Kate Ogdenski no longer wanted to keep the dog and contacted the Ontario County Humane Society and made arrangements with her mom to turn the dog over under false pretenses.
Charlene Ogdenski was charged with falsely reporting an incident and offering a false written statement, while Kate Ogdenski was charged with falsely reporting an incident. Both will answer the charges in Hopewell Town Court at a later date.
The dog, Chiante, remains at the Ontario County Humane Society and will be evaluated before being placed up for adoption.
