Judge Tosses Lawsuit to Remove Books from Wayne County School

SHARE NOW

An Albany County judge has dismissed a lawsuit seeking to remove five books from the Clyde-Savannah junior-senior high school library, including “It Ends with Us” by Colleen Hoover and “People Kill People” by Ellen Hopkins.

Judge Denise Hartman ruled on April 18 that she would not override school officials’ decisions, stating the state education commissioner acted reasonably in upholding the school board’s choice to retain the books.

The case was brought by the Rev. Jacob Marchitell and Moms for Liberty, who claimed the titles were obscene. The group’s local vice chair, Jennifer Williams, told the Finger Lakes Times that no further appeal is planned “at this time.”
