Finger Lakes residents are responding to a GoFundMe page set up to help the family of the Newark teenager who drowned in the Erie Canal Monday night.
The body of 17-year-old Wilson Augustave was recovered from the Canal after witnesses reported seeing him enter the water from atop a guardrail on the North Main Street bridge. A passerby attempted to rescue Augustave but was unsuccessful.
While the police investigation is ongoing, foul play is not suspected at this time.
Augustave was a junior at Newark High School.
