The Town of Geneva is using federal funds to divert waste from its landfill.

Speaking on FLX Morning with Ted Baker, Town Supervisor Mark Venuti said a federal grant is already being used to collect food waste for eco-friendly disposal.

The town also plans to use the approximately $50,000 it will receive from a state Department of Environmental Conservation to work with the City of Geneva on the creation of a transfer station on Doran Ave. Similar to the town’s current transfer station, Venuti said the Doran Ave station would allow town and village residents to drop off recycling and trash.

The plan is to have the station up and running by January.
