A Geneva man was listed in critical but stable condition at Strong Memorial Hospital after being involved in a one-car accident Sunday afternoon in Phelps.
Patrick Maher was driving a 2003 Acura east on County Road 23 near Tileyard Road at around 4 o’clock when he left the road, and struck a utility pole. Phelps and Clifton Springs firefighters responded to the scene and were able to extricate Maher from the vehicle. The 61-year-old was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital by Phelps Ambulance and was listed in critical but stable condition as of Sunday night.
The roadway was shutdown for several hours while New York State Electric and Gas worked to remove wires from the roadway and replace the utility police.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and the cause is still under investigation. It is believed snow covered road conditions appeared to have been a factor.
