A Geneva man faces up to 75 years in prison after being found guilty of first-degree and second-degree attempted murder.
An Ontario County jury convicted Jerry Lovett on Thursday and his sentencing is set for August.
Lovett was charged with shooting Erwin Wineglass, of Geneva, in January of 2023 after getting into an argument at a residence on North Genesee Street. A few months later, while behind bars, Lovett was arrested for arranging with a person on the outside, who turned out to be an undercover ATF agent, to kill Wineglass.
“Jerry Lovett, Jr. deserves to be sentenced to the maximum sentence allowed by law,” Assistant District Attorney Heather Parker said in a statement. “75 years to life in prison is necessary to protect not just the victim in this case but our community from Lovett who brazenly hired a hitman to kill the man he himself had attempted to murder just months before.”
