Generations Bank released a statement late Monday on the passing of its longtime President and CEO Menzo Case.

“It is with great sorrow that Generations Bank announces the passing of our longtime President & CEO, Menzo D. Case. Mr. Case passed away Friday evening, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Case began his career at Generations Bank in 1999, serving first as the Bank’s CFO, eventually becoming the Bank’s President & CEO in 2008. Under his leadership, our Bank grew from a single location at 19 Cayuga Street in Seneca Falls with $85 million in assets, to 10 locations spanning 4 counties, with approximately $400 million in assets.

“Menzo was truly a man of action. From his coworkers, friends, and most importantly, family, he was known as a brilliant leader, a willing community servant, and a devoted family man. His faith, alongside his tireless work ethic, allowed him to accomplish so very much in such a short period of time, his devotion to this Company, his church, his community, and his family are admirable. He truly cared and will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.” shared Brad Jones, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Generations Bank.

Mr. Case was known as a leader in the community, due to his hands-on involvement in countless organizations and community events. He served as a board member of Habitat for Humanity of Seneca County – an organization that has now built over 30 homes for families in Seneca County; The REV Theater; Women’s Right to Run 19K; Finger Lakes Christian Fellowship; the National Women’s Hall of Fame; Northeast College of Health Sciences; the Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Bank New York; and served as Chairman of the Board for Finger Lakes Health.

“Our hearts are heavy today and with the family, friends, and colleagues of Menzo Case. Mr.Case served as a member of Finger Lakes Health’s board of directors beginning in 2010 for seven years and was re-elected in 2019. He served as an officer beginning in 2019 and was elected Chair in April 2022. Menzo was an extraordinary man, father, husband, community advocate, and servant leader. From making time to serve at our Finger Lakes Health employee picnics, to charting a course through the recent affiliation with the University of Rochester Medical Center, his contributions were countless and meaningful. Menzo’s dedication to assuring access to high-quality local healthcare for area patients and residents, affordable housing for friends and neighbors, and economic development for our communities is a legacy that will leave a lasting impact for generations to come.” shared Jose Acevedo, M.D., President and CEO of UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health.

Previously, Case served on the Board of Directors of: the Seneca County IDA; Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes; Boy Scouts of America; Finger Lakes Workforce Investment; the Seneca Falls Development Corporation; the United Way of Seneca County’s Finance and Audit Committees; and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Community Bank Advisory Council. Mr. Case also played a vital role in providing consultation to many businesses as it related to the Seneca Falls Building Improvement Funds that were part of the Downtown Revitalization Grant awarded to the town of Seneca Falls.

In recognition of his steadfast commitment to the community, Mr. Case was the recipient of: The George Bailey Award; the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce Person of the Year; the Good Samaritan designation; the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year; The NYSDOA Civic Leadership Award from the NYS DARE Officers Association; and the Community Service Award alongside his wife, Susan Case.

Assuming Mr. Case’s role, Angela Krezmer, Generations Bank’s Senior Vice President & CFO, will serve as the Company’s interim Principal Executive Officer in addition to her current responsibilities.

“Menzo’s legacy will continue to live on here at Generations Bank. While our immediate thoughts are with Sue and his children, Menzo has built a great team here to lead the way for continued growth in the future.”
