The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office is recognizing the retirement of Sergeant Cory Herendeen after 17 years of service to the agency and the residents of Ontario County.
Herendeen completed his final shift on Thursday, concluding a law enforcement career that began in 2009 when he joined the Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol after serving in the United States Army.
During his tenure, Herendeen served in a number of leadership and specialized roles. He became a certified General Topics Instructor, Firearms Instructor and Field Training Officer, helping train and mentor new deputies. He also served on the Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, where he was trained as a sniper.
Herendeen was promoted to sergeant in May 2019 and supervised C Tour. In that role, he also oversaw the Sheriff’s Office’s Axon Body-Worn Camera Program and Radar/Lidar Program, helping manage the technology and training used by deputies in the field.
Although retiring from the Sheriff’s Office, Herendeen will continue his military service. He remains an active member of the United States Army Reserve, where he serves as a First Sergeant.
In announcing his retirement, the Sheriff’s Office thanked Herendeen for his years of dedication to the agency and the community and wished him and his family a happy, healthy and fulfilling retirement while recognizing his continued service to the nation.
