A Lyons man is facing multiple felony charges following a violent disturbance Sunday night that left two people injured.

Troopers say they were dispatched by Wayne County 911 around 9:00 p.m. to a residence on State Route 14 in the town of Lyons for a reported burglary in progress and assault.

Following an investigation, police allege that 33-year-old Philip Galek struck a male victim multiple times with a metal garden stake outside the home, causing physical injury. The victim fled inside the residence, but Galek allegedly forced his way in by breaking through glass doors while still armed with the stake and continued the assault.

Authorities say Galek then fled the scene but returned a short time later. He is accused of chasing both the male victim and a female victim into a garage, where he allegedly struck them multiple times with two metal garden stakes, causing additional injuries.

Troopers arrived and took Galek into custody without incident.

Both victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, including bruising and abrasions.

Galek has been charged with burglary in the first degree, a Class B felony; burglary in the second degree, a Class C felony; and two counts of assault in the second degree, Class D felonies.

He was sent to Wayne County Jail following his arraignment.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
