An incarcerated person was killed and another was injured during a fight at Attica Correctional Facility.
New York State Police said investigators were notified of the death at approximately 6:50 p.m. Friday.
A preliminary investigation determined that one group of incarcerated individuals attacked another group inside the prison. Seven people were involved in the altercation and have been identified, according to State Police.
One person died from injuries suffered in the fight. A second was taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of injuries described as non-life-threatening.
The state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision’s Office of Special Investigations is assisting State Police. The New York Attorney General’s Office was also notified and responded to the prison.
Authorities have not released the names of those involved or additional information about what led to the fight.
The criminal investigation remains ongoing.
