A teenager was critically injured and an adult woman also suffered burns following an accident involving gasoline and an outdoor fire on Thursday morning in Ontario County.
According to the Ontario County Sheriffβs Office, deputies responded around 9 a.m. to a residence on Little Church Road in Stanley for a report of a 15-year-old male with severe burn injuries.
Investigators say the teen had poured gasoline onto an outdoor fire when the fuel ignited and exploded, setting him on fire. Authorities say he suffered partial-thickness burns over a large portion of his body.
Mercy Flight Central transported the teen to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition in the ICU burn unit.
51-year-old Kristen Wildrick, who attempted to extinguish the flames, also suffered burns to her arm and foot. She was transported to Strong by ambulance and, at last word, was being treated in the emergency department.
The Stanley Fire Department and Hall Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Following an investigation, authorities determined the incident was accidental and not suspicious.
