Several Finger Lakes airports are receiving new federal funding for infrastructure upgrades as part of a larger package announced by U.S. Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand.
The senators announced more than $63.6 million in federal funding for airports across Upstate New York through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program and Airport Infrastructure Grant Program. The grants will support projects designed to improve airfield safety, modernize airport facilities, and upgrade terminals, taxiways, equipment, and signage.
Among the local recipients:
- Finger Lakes Regional Airport in Seneca Falls will receive $65,866 through the Airport Improvement Program to begin the design phase of a project to replace its Automated Weather Observing System III, which has reached the end of its service life.
- Ithaca Tompkins International Airport was awarded $2,590,556 through the Airport Infrastructure Grant Program to complete construction of a new 23,443-square-foot snow removal equipment building. The funding covers the project’s final construction phase, including electrical and plumbing work, helping bring the airport into compliance with current standards.
- Elmira/Corning Regional Airport will receive $2,038,181 through the Airport Infrastructure Grant Program to complete the acquisition and installation of a new passenger boarding bridge. The project is intended to bring the airport into conformity with current FAA standards.
The funding is part of a statewide investment aimed at improving airport safety, reliability, and passenger infrastructure throughout Upstate New York.
