Dozens of Animals Killed in Aurelius Barn Fire

A barn fire in Cayuga County on Monday night resulted in the loss of dozens of animals.

According to the New York State Police, troopers and firefighters responded around 9 p.m. to a reported fire at 1981 State Route 326 in the town of Aurelius.Β When emergency crews arrived, the barn was fully engulfed in flames. Multiple fire departments assisted at the scene.

The property owner told authorities that approximately 40 ducks, 30 turkeys, several chickens, and one pig were inside the structure at the time of the fire and were unable to escape. All of the animals died in the blaze.

No injuries to people were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Owasco & Fleming Fire Departments assisted at the scene. Throop and Auburn Ambulances also stood by. Cayuga County Coordinators and the Fire Investigation Unit were present.
